Pat McKenna

Pat started playing rugby in the spring of 2010 as a senior at St. John’s College HS (DC), following two years during which he says he was the “Most Valuable Practice Player” on the school’s highly competitive varsity basketball program. Skills learned on the court transferred well to the pitch, and he quickly became a formidable number eight at SJCHS and, the following year, at Towson.

A Division II All America in 2013 and 2014, he served as captain through two Division II Final Fours (spring 2012 and 2013) and two Elite Eights (fall 2013 and 2014). He paid his dues on the administrative side as well, serving as club vice president from fall 2012 to spring 2013.

In 2014, the Goff Rugby Report wrote, “McKenna is a central player to a very good team. He is unselfish, self-deprecating, and hard-working. Quick to give credit, he is exactly the kind of player who gains more out of a tough loss than from an easy victory.”

Now playing for Baltimore-Chesapeake, Pat specifically credits his coaches – Don Stone and assistants Tony De Cesare, Paul Redding, Matt Ford, and Tim Cahill: “Their passion for the game has left a lasting impact on my and so many others that have been part of Towson Rugby.”
