(February 17, 2025 – Towson, MD) The board of the Towson Rugby Alumni Association and the TRAA Hall of Fame selection committee are proud to announce the Towson Rugby Hall of Fame Class of 2025. All of this year’s members were inducted as “truly great players” (see selection process overview below):

Clark Wagner ‘84

John Malcolm ‘86

Scott Marchakitus ‘92

Ray Green ‘95*

Pat McKenna ‘15

*Ray received his undergraduate degree from University of California, Berkeley.

“As the club celebrates its 50th anniversary, it is excellent that the Hall now comprises ten men who represent the best of the Towson Rugby tradition. They've set a great standard for the men and possibly women at some point [see note at end – ed.] who will join them in the Classes of 2028, 2030, 2033, and onward,” said TRAA board president Mark J. Stiller.

Established in 1975, the Towson University Rugby Football Club created its Hall of Fame in 2023. The first Hall of Fame class, comprised of five men from the 1970s “founding generation,” was inducted that year. They are the late Peter J. Gorman, III (1956-1978), J. Matthew McGlone, Jeff Opiekun, Don Stone, and Craig Harrison Dobkin.

Event planners Kurt Uebersax and Nancy Urbanas are looking to build on the 2023 event, which drew a packed house of more than 160 guests to the American Legion on York Road just north of campus. This year's event will be held on the other side of Towson in the main ballroom of the Sheraton Baltimore North on Dulaney Valley Road.

The 50th Anniversary Reunion and Hall of Fame Induction Celebration will be held on the evening of Saturday, May 3. Ticket details will be released shortly.

For information on sponsorship opportunities, contact Kurt Uebersax at (301) 639-1000.

A discounted $149/night rate has been arranged at the Sheraton. If you're interested, please reserve now, as the rate goes away April 4th. Call (410) 321-7400 and mention "rugby banquet" or use this link:

More events are planned, including a golf outing on Friday, May 2 at Pine Ridge Golf Course, and an Alumni Match on Saturday. Details will be firmed up on these and other activities in the next couple of weeks.

The Towson Rugby Alumni Association board is Mark J. Stiller, President; Colby Buss, Vice President; Michael Smith, Treasurer; Jamie Hunt, Secretary; and Eric Noonan, Public Relations & Golf Chair

The 2025 TRAA Hall of Fame Selection Committee is Don Stone, Michael Smith, and Jamie Hunt.

About the selection process:

The 2025 TRAA Hall of Fame Selection Committee was looking for five men** who represent Towson Rugby at its best. Prospective inductees fall into three general categories: (1) a truly great player; (2) a truly great coach; and (3) a truly great contributor to the health and success of the club. Everyone who has played or coached at Towson is eligible for nomination. Of the approximately one thousand men who've been part of the club since its founding, dozens have been nominated by their peers. In the review for the Class of 2025, the selection committee sifted those nominees down to 13 for a closer look. Multiple ballots and much discussion and debate followed over the course of several meetings. All of the inductees have had great success on and off the pitch after Towson, but their selection was primarily based on their time at Towson. Each demonstrated excellence on the pitch, leadership on and off the pitch, and a commitment to keeping the club going strong. In its half century of existence, there have been times when the club has been perilously close to folding, so this commitment has been critical.

**Although the TRAA’s Hall of Fame selection and event planning committees have benefitted from outstanding assistance from two women from the founding era – Joanne Finnegan and Nancy Urbanas – the association has not had any other volunteers interested in coordinating and evaluating HoF nominees from the women’s club.

In the run-up to the induction celebration for the HoF Class of 2028, the TRAA will seek to expand the board and selection committee volunteers to include representatives from each decade of the club’s existence. At the same time, it will seek to determine whether women alumni are interested in being part of this HoF, in creating something on their own, or neither.
