Craig Harrison Dobkin

Energetic, humble, and an advocate for enjoying all facets of life outdoors, Craig used his knack for extemporaneous inspirational speeches to help found Towson Rugby in April 1975. Witlh Matt McGlone and Ron Stringer, he assembled and molded a fast and athletic group of men who shared his love for (occasionalJy) unconventional behavior and desire to compete at the highest level. Since being the best requires playing the best, Craig - then a member of Towson' s physical education faculty - organized a three-credit winter term tour of England and Wales in January 1976. Twenty-two players, 12 days, six matches - a baptism of fire. The payoff was a 9-0 record and Potomac Rugby Union college division championship tl1at Spring, the first in a string of successes. A founder by nature, Craig in 1977 introduced Project Marj (now Project Explore), a wilderness pre-orientation program for incoming Towson freshman and transfer students. And in 1996, following a rappelling accident that left him partially paralyzed, he and Michael Terrien began Play for Peace to use sports to help bring peace to areas of conflict across the globe.
