Jeff Opiekun
Twice honored as the club's best forward (1975, 1976) and as a Charm City All-Star (1977, 1978), Jeff was an exceptional figure on a title winning squad known for its athleticism and speed. He ran cross country for Towson in Fall 1974, then joined the new club the following Spring, while also lettering in javelin that year and the next and serving a term as club president. After graduating with dual degrees in Matllematics and Mathematics Education in 1977, Jeff ran in the Maryland Marathon in 1978, bicycled from Randallstown, MD, to Gray Harbor, WA with two friends two years later, and played for the Towson Old Men (since merged with Baltimore-Chesapeake RFC) until 1983 while earning his MS in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University. Married since 1988 with three grown children, the retired software and satellite communications engineer learned to speak French several years ago and since then has taught math and English to seven members of a family from tlle Republic of Cameroon, a former French colony in west Africa, that was granted political asylum.
